Learning Diaries: a Reflection of your Learning Process

Image
A learning diary is a personal record that you use to track your progress in learning something new. It's more than just summarizing information; it's a tool for reflecting on what you've learned and how you've learned it. Here are some key aspects of a learning diary: Reflection : It helps you think critically about the material you're encountering. You can analyze it, make connections to your own experiences, and identify areas where you need more clarification. Self-assessment : By reflecting on your learning process, you can identify your strengths and weaknesses. This can help you adjust your learning strategies for better understanding and retention. Goal setting : You can use your diary to set goals for yourself and track your progress towards achieving them. Learning diaries can be used in various settings, such as: Formal education: Students can use them to keep track of what they're learning in class, ask questions, and identify areas where they need h

Advent Calendar 2020

Image
It's the most wonderful time of the year again and here in Greece, as in most European countries, we are spending it at home in quarantine. However this is no reason not to be festive; in fact we should try to keep our spirits up as much as possible so as to be able to support our students as well. So why not share an online Advent Calendar with our students as a treat? photo by  JillWellington An Advent Calendar is a special calendar used for counting the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas.  Advent calendars are usually a large rectangular card with "windows", one for each day of December leading up to and including Christmas Eve (December 24). Consecutive doors are opened every day beginning on December 1. The calendar windows open to reveal an image, a poem, a portion of a story, or a small gift, such as a toy or a chocolate item. The advent calendar that follows is a digital one. There is a new fun activity behind each door, from Kahoot quizes and filling in

26th September: European Day of Languages

Image
800 million Europeans are represented in the Council of Europe's 47 member states and all are encouraged to discover more languages at any age. This stems from the Council of Europe’s conviction that linguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater intercultural understanding and a key element in the rich cultural heritage of our continent.  The general objectives of the European Day of Languages are to: alert the public to the importance of language learning and diversify the range of languages learned in order to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding; promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe; encourage lifelong language learning in and out of school. In keeping with these rules, people, young and old, are encouraged to take up a language, or take special pride in their existing language skills. Also, those responsible for providing access to language learning are encouraged to make it easier for people to learn a range of languages, and

eTwinning project: "Green Entrepreneurs"

Image
The past school year was a difficult one for teachers and students. We had to adapt to new ways of doing things in a very short time. However teachers who have been involved in eTwinning projects all these years, have probably adjusted to the new reality more easily. eTwinning projects gave students and teachers the opportunity to collaborate from a distance using digital online tools way before the quarantine!  During this ordeal and, most importantly, despite it, we managed to complete our project "Green entrepreneurs" with schools from Turkey, Italy, Croatia and Romania. Our project logo The aim of the project was to encourage students to act for the good of the planet, to become "Green Entrepreneurs" and to realize their responsibilities towards nature and the world. Through this project, we wanted our students to look at their daily habits and realize how they affect the environment, to learn what the causes of climate change are and what they can do to stop th

Online learning Hub: Symbaloo

Image
Symbaloo is an interesting application that allows its users to visually organize their online resources and make them available anywhere, on any device. With a bookmark package (Webmix), you can organize a lesson or presentation with all the required resources available on your screen, without having to look for them.  I started using Symbaloo during the first quarantine as a way to help my students access all the digital resources they needed for their lessons easily and quickly. In this way Symbaloo can help support student organization so they don't get lost in the web.  To get started, visit the official Website , sign up (or use your Google or Facebook account). After logging in to your account you will create a new Webmix from the menu bar (press +). All the work from here on has to do with assigning the desired bookmarks to the tiles. You can change their appearance (colour, image), move them around, put them in groups, delete them. The material you collect on Webmixes can

Black History Month: Martin Luther King Worksheets

Image
February has officially been designated as Black History Month in the U.S. since 1976. Also known as African American History Month, it is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S. history. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history. To celebrate Black History Month I have prepared some worksheets on a video from Free School , about Dr Martin Luther King, a famous Civil Rights leader, pastor, and humanitarian. Martin Luther King is best known for his peaceful, nonviolent protests and speeches calling for change. One of the most important figures of African American History!
